New York: The Big Single
SMW Women’s Vacation & Travel Resources
By Josie Brown,  updated 6/25/2008 at 7:32:16 PM

New York is known as the city that never sleeps: a perfect reputation for girls who wanna have fun. Whether you want to hang in Soho like a boho babe, or be an uptown girl (make that a Park Avenue princess), SMW can guide you to the sights and sounds of the biggest city of them all:

Stars in Bars

The Beatrice Inn
285 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10014 (Near 4th Street)

Run as a club (but not necessarily private) by Paul Sevigny, this former Italian speakeasy is also a hot celebrity hangout. It is cozy (very low ceilings), what with the banquettes, mirrored walls, antiques, oil paintings, deep sofas and anteroom fireplace. In other words, the perfect place to stargaze.

Rose Bar
Gramercy Park Hotel, 2 Lexington Avenue (at 21st St.)
It took Julian Schnabel's artful eye and owner Ian Schrager's class, cash and flair to create this chic place to meet. From its red-and-white tile floor to its fifteen-foot goldleaf “Rorschach” print by Warhol, style is word one. And the bar isn't just well stocked, but elegant to boot.

PDT

113 St. Marks Pl., nr. First Ave.; 212-614-0386
Short for "Please Don't Tell," believe it or not, this watering hole is accessed through a vintage phone booth within Crif Dogs, the diner renowned for its deep-fried wieners (an ultimate sin, for sure). Serving a wide selection of beer, wine, and classic or playful cocktails, it's the perfect place to pick up the East Village vibe at its best.

Fifth Avenue Fashion
You don't have to be a Bergdorf blonde to enjoy a bit of breakfast at Tiffany. Or lunch at Cartier, for that matter. Eye candy keeps you slim. (If only it made you rich, too!) Fifth Avenue's window-shopping menu includes:

Bergdorf Goodman, 754 Fifth Ave.
Bergdorf Men's, 745 Fifth Ave.
Brooks Brothers, 666 Fifth Ave.
Bulgari, 730 Fifth Ave.
Cartier, 653 Fifth Ave.
Disney Store, 711 Fifth Ave.
Fendi, 720 Fifth Ave.
Ferragamo Women's, 661 Fifth Ave.
Fortunoff, 681 Fifth Ave.
Gucci, 685 Fifth Ave.
H. Stern, 645 Fifth Ave.
Harry Winston, 718 Fifth Ave.
Henri Bendel, 712 Fifth Ave.
Kenneth Cole, 610 Fifth Ave.
Louis Vuitton, 1 E. 57th St.
NBA Store, 666 Fifth Avenue
Prada, 724 Fifth Ave.
Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Ave.
Sephora, 636 Fifth Ave.
Takashimaya, 693 Fifth Ave.
Tiffany & Co., 727 Fifth Ave.
Trump Tower, 725 Fifth Ave.
Van Cleef & Arpels, 744 Fifth Ave.
Versace, 647 Fifth Ave.

See and Be in the Scene

Chrysler Building
42nd Street at Lexington Avenue
This Art Deco wonder is made of polished chromium nickle that gleams even on the cloudiest days! Check out the gargoyles on the 59th floor, and the eagles on the 6lst floor.  In NYC, those are what you call "pets."

Central Park
Manhattan's pastoral playground is bordered on the north by West 110th Street, on the south by West 59th Street, on the west by Eighth Avenue. Amid this century-plus-year old park's gardens, lakes, meadows, rocky climbs, and wooded glens, you'll forget you're in the country's largest city.  Central Park also boasts two skating rinks, a zoo, a Victorian castle, the John-Lennon "Strawberry Fields" memorial.

Brooklyn Bridge
You don't have to be Woody Allen to revel in the beauty of the Brooklyn Bridge. Spanning the East River, it is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the country (5,989 feet). With its soaring arches and incomparable views of Wall Street and the Statue of Liberty, this is truly a must-trod landmark.
